Google and Apple shuttles attacked
Shuttle Bus

Recently, four busses chartered by Apple and one chartered by Google have been attacked in the South Bay as they transported employees to and from work. During these attacks windows have been broken and damaged, possibly by a pellet gun or rocks. All five incidents took place near Highway 280 in the Woodside, California area.

According to Mashable, California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel confirmed that the agency was investigating reports of an “unknown object” hitting shuttle windows, though he did not provide any additional information.

The political director of the Teamsters Joint Council 7 Doug Bloch told the San Francisco Examiner that he believes a pellet gun is responsible for the damage.

“It was pellet guns,” Bloch explained to the paper. “A couple [of the buses] were driven by Teamsters who were understandably scared, but no one got hurt.”

About four years ago protestors were targeting the shuttle busses that transported Google employees to and from work to show their dissatisfaction with the gentrification that the tech company has brought to San Francisco and the surrounding areas. Now there is concern that Apple is being targeted as well.

According to an internal Apple email that has been shared with Mashable, all shuttles are being re-routed away from Highway 280.

“Due to recent incidents of broken windows along the commute route, specifically on Highway 280, we’re rerouting coaches for the time being. This change in routes could mean an additional 30-45 minutes of commute time in each direction for some riders,” the email read.

It continued, “As always, the safety of our employees is our first priority. We’re working closely with law enforcement to investigate these incidents and we’ll notify you as soon as the coaches are able to return to the regular route. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

While the attacks are currently thought to be targeted, the investigation is ongoing.
