Sydney was born and raised in central Arkansas. An active member of the community, Sydney is a board member of several nonprofits, including Arkansas Appleseed Legal Justice Center, Arkansas United Action, and North Little Rock Friends of Animals, and volunteers with many others. Sydney was a legal assistant for 11 years prior to becoming an attorney, and in law school, Sydney earned the Dean's certificate of distinguished public service, the emerging leader award, top paper awards in bankruptcy and contracts, the certificate of excellence in bankruptcy from the American Bankruptcy Institute, and participated in the American College of Bankruptcy's Distinguished Law Student Program. Sydney was named a member of the 2021 Legal Elite by AY Magazine, and was awarded Alumnus of the Year by New Leaders Council Arkansas in 2022. Sydney has also served as a commissioner on the Pulaski County Board of Election Commissioners since May 2022.
