Many people ask me why I love my job and doing the heartfelt work that is family law. It started with finding myself pregnant at 19. I got married and had the baby that same year. I often say that having my baby at 19 was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I was able to get my life together much quicker than I would have if I didn’t have the responsibility of a child.
I went on to have 3 more children. I am still “famous” with my law school classmates for having a baby (my last one) on spring break of my first year of law school. My life has been filled with children. I had to dig deep and learn how to put their needs first and not be the selfish teenager that I once was. I found that caring for them brought me so much more joy than living the life I had been living. I feel that way about my clients too. I care for them and protect them and it brings meaning to my life. I love being a part of their happy endings and getting notes and emails years after the case is over; finding out how their lives have grown and changed.
Later in my life, I went through my own divorce, which gave me even more insight into the pain and sadness that our clients’ feel during the process. For over 26 years I have balanced my clients’ competing needs for savvy assistance in their complex financial matters with important decisions regarding their children. Schantz Lang PC has been located in the “silicon forest” for 20 years. We work with many clients from the high tech community. I often say that these are my people. I now enjoy creating a team to stand beside each of our clients to make sure that creative solutions are explored for each unique issue that arises.
I can draw on my years of experience to problem solve difficult situations. Whether it’s figuring out ways to keep the family business intact, dividing farm property, or understanding division of unvested RSUs and other unusual assets, I understand the business side of family law. When not at work, I can be found at the gym getting pushed to the limit by my personal trainer or playing with my grandkids.
I am also passionate about my Church’s mission to the homeless and have been volunteering at our SOS homeless shelter since 2010. We provide meals, beds, showers, clothes, prayers, love and support to our homeless guests at our 90 day winter shelter.
