Criminal defense attorney Tim Powers graduated cum laude (Juris Doctor) from Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and will be a candidate for an Doctor of Law (LLD) degree at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. He is currently the managing attorney of the Law Offices of Tim Powers in Denton and an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the University of North Texas.
A former Assistant District Attorney and Chief Misdemeanor Prosecutor, Powers was voted 1997 Denton County Prosecutor of the Year. He has experience in over 20,000 DWI, drug, assault / family violence, divorce and family law cases in North Texas. Tim Powers served as a legal intern at the Supreme Court of Oklahoma and former sitting Municipal Court Judge in Denton County. Tim Powers served briefly on the team of retained attorneys assisting members of the George W. Bush administration and is often consulted by elected officials in Texas on issues of criminal justice. Powers is a current or former member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, the Texas Association of County and District Attorneys, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the National College for DUI Defense, the Denton County Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association and the Denton County Bar Association among other professional organizations.
