Ms. Smith earned her law degree from Cornell Law School in 1995. Ms. Smith then embarked on her law career in Boston, Massachusetts, working as an associate attorney in the Business Litigation Department of a large international law firm. By her second year as a lawyer, Ms. Smith had already second-chaired two high stakes business trials, both of which ended in victories for the firm’s clients.
In 1999, Ms. Smith returned to her home state of Colorado to work in the Litigation Department of Jacobs Chase Frick Kleinkopf & Kelley, LLC. While at JCFKK, Ms. Smith added to her practice repertoire the area of employment law defense. As an employment defense litigator, Ms. Smith learned to navigate complicated state and federal employment laws and procedures, and was taught all the standard strategies utilized by the employment defense bar. In or around 2006, Ms. Smith discovered her untapped potential as a plaintiff’s attorney and became a partner in Starrs Mihm, LLP. In 2012, Ms. Smith left Starrs Mihm to become the managing partner of the Denver office of Freking & Betz, LLC. In 2015, Ms. Smith opened The Law Offices of Elizabeth “Booka” Smith, LLC.
Since 2006, Ms. Smith has almost exclusively represented individual plaintiffs in employment and business related matters. Her practice now focuses on advocating for victims of workplace discrimination and harassment, and for whistleblowers. Ms. Smith has helped many grateful clients get their careers back on track after employer wrongdoing derailed them, obtaining millions in recovery for employees and whistleblowers across the country. Her accomplishments include obtaining what are believed to be the two the largest settlements in single plaintiff employment cases in Colorado history. Ms. Smith takes great pride in her work and enjoys “doing well by doing the right thing.”
