Jane Muir is an attorney whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, business transactions, and general counsel. She has been appointed as Receiver in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida. She is an “AV Preeminent” rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, admitted to practice in Florida, as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida, and the United States Circuit Courts of Appeal for the Tenth and Eleventh Circuits. A fourth-generation resident of Miami, Ms. Muir attended the Hotchkiss School before earning her degree from the University of Florida in Political Science and Art History. She continued her education at the University of Miami School of Law. Ms. Muir was captain of the Mock Trial Team, earned the John F. Evans Memorial Scholarship for excellence in Litigation Skills, and was admitted to the prestigious Order of Barristers for her performance in eighteen intramural and interscholastic competitions. When she joined the legal profession in 2009, Ms. Jane Muir became active in the voluntary bar.
She has been elected to leadership positions, serving as President of the Coral Gables Bar Association (after being elected to the board of directors, Treasurer, and President-Elect) and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Dade County Bar Association five times. She was then 2016-2017 Treasurer, 2017-2018 Secretary, 2018-2019 Vice President, 2019-2020 President-Elect, and 2020-2021 President of the Dade County Bar Association. During her presidency, which required the suspension of ordinary activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the association initiated an ambitious renovation of their headquarters, adopted the name Miami-Dade Bar Association and associated new logos and color scheme, and hired a well-qualified executive director.
She has lectured regarding organizational management, accounting and tax issues, social media, cybersecurity, and technology for a variety of conferences and programs. Ms. Jane Muir is committed to serving the community. She has served on a Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the 11th Circuit by the Florida Bar Board of Governors, which decides disciplinary action for lawyers. She is the current chair of the All-Grove Crime Watch, where she has worked to advocate for victims of crimes for the Court Watch Committee.
She also supports Dade Legal Aid and Legal Services of Greater Miami. The Dade County Bar Association has awarded her a Pro Bono Service Award for Innovative Projects for her charitable efforts. Ms. Jane Muir has been recognized with several other significant honors and awards, such as the Florida Bar’s 2015 Young Lawyers Division’s Lynn Futch Most Productive Young Lawyer Award. The award honors a young lawyer who is not a member of the YLD Board of Governors, who has worked most diligently in the past year in Bar activities or law-related public activities, and who has an excellent reputation for legal abilities and integrity.
She previously received the 2014 President’s Award from the Coral Gables Bar Association, the 2013 Alumni Leadership Award, and the 2011 President’s Spirit of Achievement Award from the University of Miami School of Law Alumni Association. The Miami Herald named her one of the “20 Under 40 Emerging Leaders in South Florida” for 2014, and Brickell Magazine named her to its 2016 list of Top 20 Professionals Under 40. More recently, in 2020, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce named her Businesswoman of the Year for Philanthropy. She speaks Spanish.
