Attorney Thomas Shie grew up in Davenport, Iowa, and graduated from Davenport West High School. During high school, Tom played on the varsity tennis team and worked part time in the Sports Department at the Quad City Times Newspaper.
At the University of Iowa, Tom was a member of Acacia Fraternity serving as Treasurer for two years, worked part time at the Dental Science Building during school, and graduated from the University of Iowa Business School with a Bachelors in Business Administration in Accounting. Tom then attended law school at IIT - Chicago Kent College of Law in the Chicago Loop, was a member of law review, worked part time as a law clerk for two Chicago law firms during law school, and was admitted to the prestigious Order of Coif for graduating in the top 10% of his graduating class. Tom became an attorney at age 25, licensed in both Iowa and Illinois.
After working for 16 months as an associate attorney for a law firm in Rock Island, Illinois, Tom left the firm to begin his own law firm at the Priester Building in Davenport. In the beginning of his solo practice, Tom employed no staff and handled all scheduling, clerical, and attorney duties himself. After practicing completely independent for about two years, Tom joined an office-sharing arrangement with Attorneys Ted Priester, Realff Ottesen (now retired), and Mike Walton (whom currently is the Scott County Attorney).
Tom still practices with Attorney Ted Priester as Shie Law Office, P.C., and Priester & Shie (an association of sole practitioners). Tom has nearly 30 years of experience and expertise in the legal areas of estates and transactional law, including estate planning, decedents’ estates such as Probate and Trust administration, residential and commercial real estate transactions, business law including formation and business transactions, and contracts drafting and contract law.
