David’s practice is limited to family law and domestic relations. David graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of law in 2007. After receiving his J.D. from the University of Iowa, he worked as a judicial law clerk for the District Court of Iowa District 2B. As a law clerk he assisted trial court judges in Iowa with legal research, writing and preparing orders, preparing and assisting with trials, and other court-related tasks. A significant amount of David’s work included assisting the court with criminal and civil cases, including family and domestic relations law. David also spent his third year in law school as a prosecuting intern for the Johnson County Attorney’s Office where he prosecuted misdemeanors.

David joined Bray & Klockau P.L.C. in 2008. His family law and domestic relations law practice is a litigation, trial, and appellate practice. David handles cases such as divorces, child custody cases, child support actions, paternity actions, adoptions, and family law appeals. David practices in Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Iowa City, Mt. Pleasant, Muscatine, Washington, and the surrounding areas.  David has represented clients in both full representation as well as limited scope representation/unbundled legal services.

David is active in the state and local family law organizations. He has been a member of the Iowa State Bar Association since 2007. He has been a member of the family law section of the Iowa State Bar Association since 2008.  David is a member of the Section Council of the Iowa State Bar Association Family & Juvenile Law Section and was vice-chair of the Section from 2014 – 2016 and chair of the section from 2016 to 2018.  David is chair of the ISBA Family & Juvenile law Section Continuing Legal Education committee and has been on the Section Legislative Committee since 2014.  David is also co-chair of the Johnson County Bar Association Family Law Committee.

David has made presentations to both the Johnson County and Linn County Bar Associations in addition to the Iowa State Bar Association. David is also currently teaching and developing materials for local and statewide presentations.
