Attorney
Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87106
I'm a native of South Dakota and a fifth-generation lawyer. I have a degree in English from Carleton College and a master's degree in theology from Harvard University. I am an ordained United Methodist pastor -- my first career! -- but left the pulpit to pursue law. After graduating from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2000, I began practicing law at Dakota Plains Legal Services on the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota and South Dakota.
I moved to Albuquerque in May 2004, to expand my practice of Indian law -- and to escape the cold! -- but instead accepted a staff attorney position with Resources, Inc. (now Domestic Violence Resource Center) in October 2004, because of its commitment to quality legal services to the poor. I became Legal Director of the agency in 2007. After leaving Resources, Inc. in 2011, I spent time volunteering for Law Access New Mexico.
In 2012 I opened my private practice, and I believe my business plan will allow me to continue to serve indigent and low-income families. I'm a member of New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota and United States District Court (D.S.D.) bars; and a former member of both the Standing Rock and Isleta tribal courts.
