Leslie D. Maxwell received her B.A. in Anthropology from Emory University in 2003 and her Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2006. At UNM, she was a judicial extern at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Mexico and was awarded the 2006 Medal of Excellence in Bankruptcy by the American Bankruptcy Institute. She is licensed to practice in New Mexico, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Mexico.
Ms. Maxwell also is the former President of the Bankruptcy Section of the New Mexico State Bar, on which she has served since 2010. She is also a Master Bencher in the H. Vearle Payne Inn of Court based in Albuquerque. She is a member of both the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the American Bankruptcy Insitute. Ms. Maxwell was named a Rising Star in Bankruptcy Practice by Southwest Super Lawyers for 2017-2020.
Her publications include “Being a Professionally Responsible Debt Relief Agent: How Do You Respect a Law That Can Get You Disbarred?” in the October 2006 issue of the Norton Bankruptcy Law Adviser and “Chapter 11: A Lifeline for Distressed Companies” in the November 2015 issue of New Mexico Lawyer. Ms. Maxwell regularly speaks on consumer bankruptcy and financial law topics throughout New Mexico.
