Waple & Houk, PLLC
Charlotte, North Carolina, 28203
Lou is a lifelong North Carolina resident raised in Fayetteville. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his law degree from Campbell University. From the initial steps of his professional career, he has worked in the courtroom. He served as an assistant district attorney in Mecklenburg County.
From there, Lou joined a small but growing civil litigation defense firm in 2001, where he started his workers’ compensation practice, representing employers and insurance companies throughout the state. He was a partner in what became a large multi-state civil litigation firm. In 2008, Lou joined a growing statewide personal injury firm, where he opened and managed the Charlotte office. He helped injured employees pursue workers’ compensation claims against their employers and insurance carriers.
The time working and serving clients in large, volume practices on both sides of workers’ compensation issues provided invaluable experience that Lou now shares within a smaller practice setting, one with less volume but more client accessibility. In addition to the central focus on workers’ compensation, Lou expanded his practice in 2013 to include representing individuals within estate matters- primarily guardianship and fiduciary disputes. Within this expanded practice area, Lou employs his litigation experience, assisting individuals concerned about a family member’s ability to manage their affairs, who seek intervention to address health decisions, and protect assets from persons who prey on their vulnerability.
He is also a certified superior court mediator and, since 2013, has served as a mediator for parties in both personal injury and estate litigation matters. Like many community members, Lou is active in community organizations, including his church and the Mecklenburg County Bar, and he coaches youth sports. He has enjoyed serving on Mecklenburg County Bar’s Grievance and Fee Dispute Committees.
