In addition to his robust US practice, Chris works with agents around the world in establishing patent rights in a variety of countries for his clients.

Chris has a long career in innovation and intellectual property. He has an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering with extensive course work in electrical engineering at the University of Southern Maine. He worked as an engineer at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics before attending law school.  He developed and evaluated materials used to modify the sound characteristics of underwater vessels.  Upon graduation from law school, he went into private practice prosecuting patent applications.  His experience expanded to include trademark and copyright protection efforts as well as the licensing and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Chris served as the sole intellectual property attorney for Enterasys Networks of New Hampshire and Massachusetts, where he managed a portfolio of nearly 800 US and foreign patents and patent applications. He was also responsible for software licensing, patent licensing, joint development agreements and dispute matters involving intellectual property. He continues to represent Extreme Networks, successor to Enterasys, in its patent matters.

Chris assists invention owners in licensing and enforcing their patent rights. He has successfully negotiated license agreements on behalf of individual inventors and corporate clients, in some cases helping these clients license their inventions to Fortune 500 companies. He has represented patent owners and alleged infringers in patent infringement disputes. Chris prepares opinions of patentability, patent infringement and non-infringement, and patent validity and enforceability.

Chris works with trademark and service mark owners to determine the registrability and protection of their marks in the United States and abroad.  He assists clients in protecting trademark rights and defending against assertions of trademark infringement.  He also negotiates and prepares agreements for trademark use.

Chris also assists authors register copyrights in their works and license and enforce their copyrights.  He analyzes the impact of using open source software in computer programs and provides advice about the same.
