David M. Helbraun is a principal in the firm and a graduate of Yale University (B.A. 1982) and of Hastings College of the Law, University of California at San Francisco (J.D. 1987). Formerly a partner in the San Francisco office of a nationwide professional liability and insurance coverage law firm, Mr. Helbraun specializes in professional liability, copyright and trademark, construction and commercial litigation, and civil rights matters. He has extensive practice in professional liability claims involving lawyers, architects and real estate and insurance professionals, including trial and appellate work in those areas. Mr. Helbraun has also litigated through trial intellectual property, franchise law, and constitutional law tort claims.
Mr. Helbraun has successfully litigated both coverage and liability cases through summary judgment and trial. Among other significant matters, Mr. Helbraun was trial and appellate counsel in Fireman's Fund Ins. Co. v. Haslam, (1994) 29 Cal.App.4th 1347. He obtained a multi-million dollar recovery on behalf of the Tennessee Insurance Commissioner, and represented design professionals in litigation arising out of construction of the San Francisco Airport's International Terminal. Mr. Helbraun has also served as a lecturer on legal ethics and avoiding legal malpractice, written articles on internet domain name infringement, and co-authored the Insurance Settlement Handbook. Mr. Helbraun is admitted to practice before all of the state and federal courts in California; is a member of the California State Bar and the American Bar Association (Tort and Insurance Practice section), the Bar Association of San Francisco, and Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom; and served for several years on the California State Bar Committee on Professional Liability Insurance, overseeing the State Bar endorsed insurance program for California attorneys.
Mr. Helbraun also serves as an Arbitrator for Kaiser Arbitration matters.
Mr. Helbraun is a founding Board Member of the National LGBT Bar Association and the Lavender Law Conference.
