Neil earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 2000, and earned his law degree from Loyola University New Orleans in 2003. During law school, he worked at the Internal Revenue Service on issues relating to small businesses and sole proprietorships, and clerked for two law firms focusing on domestic relations and divorce. As an undergraduate, he was a member of the Honor’s College an held an executive role in the student government.
After finishing law school Neil worked for a mid-sized law firm representing many of the largest American financial and industrial companies. In 2006 he opened his own practice, The Smith Law Firm, LLC. Since that time he has represented thousands of individuals in family law cases in class actions. He has tried countless cases to conclusion, won summary judgments, arbitration awards, and favorable settlements for his clients.
He has also provided legal analysis to news sources including Missouri Lawyers Weekly, the St. Louis Daily Record, The Countian, Fox 2 (St. Louis), KSDK (St. Louis), NBC KY3 (Springfield, Missouri), and KOLR 10 (Springfield). Neil devotes the majority of his practice to representing clients in divorce, custody, child support, and other family law matters. During his spare time, Neil contributes to a variety of non-profit organizations. These include Join Hands ESL, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Habitat for Humanity, SATE, and Missouri Confluence Waterkeeper. He served as the head coach of the Missouri State University Mock Trial Team, and has sponsored various youth athletic teams and programs.
